January 10–13, 2025 - The faith community of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar, experienced a spiritually enriching pastoral visit by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese. Over four days, the visit was marked by prayerful reflection, significant pastoral moments, and communal joy as Bishop Lobo engaged with parishioners and led them in faith-filled activities.
Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Harold Pereira, along with the parishioners, extended a warm and heartfelt welcome, reflecting their deep respect and affection for Bishop Lobo’s leadership.
The visit commenced with a solemn prayer service that set a tone of reflection and reverence. Bishop Lobo visited the cemetery, where he led prayers for the faithful departed, a moving reminder of the Church’s communion with the saints.
In a session with the Parish Finance Committee, Bishop Lobo provided valuable insights on stewarding parish resources, blending spiritual guidance with practical management to support the community’s growth.
On January 11, Bishop Lobo celebrated the Holy Eucharist at Lourdes Convent, Kanajar, and spent time interacting with the sisters, reaffirming his support and appreciation for their religious mission.
A highlight of the visit on January 12 was the catechism session with 45 youth preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Lobo emphasized the spiritual significance of the sacrament, inspiring the young parishioners to embrace their faith journey with sincerity and dedication. During the solemn Eucharistic celebration, he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to the catechized youth. His homily urged all parishioners to deepen their spiritual lives through prayer and strengthen their relationship with God.
Bishop Lobo’s meetings with various parish groups, including the Altar Boys, Girls' Sodality, Missionary Children, ICYM, and YCS, brought inspiration and encouragement to the youth. In the afternoon, he engaged with the Pastoral Commission animators, fostering unity and strengthening the bonds within the parish.
A particularly memorable moment was Bishop Lobo’s participation in a Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) meeting, where he connected with parishioners at a grassroots level, reaffirming his commitment to nurturing small faith communities.
In a compassionate gesture, Bishop Lobo visited the sick and met with members of the Secular Franciscan Order, Sthree Sanghatan, and Catholic Sabha, offering blessings, prayers, and words of comfort.
At Lourdes ICSE School, Kanajar, Bishop Lobo interacted with students, delivering an encouraging talk, followed by a meeting with the teachers and staff, where he emphasized the importance of holistic education and spiritual values.
