From January 18th to 20th, 2025, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Lobo, Bishop of the Diocese of Udupi, paid a pastoral visit to Holy Cross Church, Pamboor. The parish, led by Rev. Fr. Henry Mascarenhas, warmly welcomed the Bishop, reflecting their gratitude for his spiritual guidance and leadership.
The visit commenced with a solemn prayer service, followed by a poignant visit to the cemetery, where the Bishop joined parishioners in prayers for the departed, fostering a deep sense of communion with the saints.
A significant highlight was Bishop Lobo’s catechism session for 19 youth preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. His interaction exemplified his commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of the younger generation.
The Bishop also held a meeting with the Parish Finance Committee, offering valuable insights into the effective management of both spiritual and administrative aspects of parish life. His guidance emphasized the balance between faith-driven leadership and prudent governance.
The high point of the visit occurred on January 19th during the solemn Holy Eucharist, where Bishop Lobo administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to the 19 catechized youth. In his homily, he highlighted the transformative power of prayer, encouraging the faithful to deepen their relationship with God.
Bishop Lobo also engaged with various parish groups, including the Altar Boys, Girls' Sodality, Missionary Children, ICYM, and YCS. His meetings provided spiritual encouragement and motivation. Additionally, his discussions with the Sthree Sanghatan, Catholic Sabha, and Pastoral Commission animators reinforced the parish’s communal bonds.
An especially moving aspect of the visit was the Bishop’s participation in a Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) meeting, demonstrating his dedication to fostering grassroots faith communities.
On January 20th, Bishop Lobo celebrated the Holy Eucharist at the Helena Sadan Convent and shared heartfelt spiritual reflections with the sisters. Following this, he visited the sick of the parish, bringing comfort and prayers to their homes. He also visited the parish school, where he addressed the students and staff during their assembly, inspiring them with words of encouragement. Later, he met with members of the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO), Marian Legion, and Third Order, further strengthening their faith journey.
This pastoral visit left an indelible mark on the parishioners of Holy Cross Church, Pamboor. Bishop Lobo’s leadership, rooted in prayer, compassion, and wisdom, inspired the community to deepen their faith and continue their spiritual journey with renewed dedication and zeal.
