Attur, January 26, 2025: The annual feast of St. Lawrence Basilica, Attur, was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm. Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, led the festive mass, joined by Rev. Dr. Alban D’Souza, Rector of the Basilica, and several guest priests. The celebration coincided with the Sunday observance of the Word of God and drew a large congregation of faithful.
During the event, Bishop Lobo unveiled three notable publications: a hand-written Bible, a children’s book on saints, and a guide on the Way of the Cross by Rev. Fr. Louis D’Sa. These publications were aimed at enriching the spiritual lives of the faithful across all ages.
After the mass, Bishop Lobo blessed a newly constructed prayer hall designated for prayers after confessions. The day also featured the ceremonial honoring of the Bible, with incense and garlands symbolizing its sacred significance. Priests delivered insightful homilies based on the Jubilee 2025 theme, “Hope does not disappoint us,” which resonated deeply with the attendees.
Coinciding with India’s Republic Day, the feast witnessed a massive turnout, with devotees arriving early and staying late into the evening. Over twenty priests were available for confessions, highlighting the Basilica’s importance as a pilgrimage site where special indulgences can be obtained.
The annual feast reinforced a sense of unity, faith, and hope among the devotees, ensuring the legacy of St. Lawrence continues to inspire and bring spiritual fulfillment to all.
