The Milagres Alumni (NRI) scholarship distribution program was held at tri-centenary hall on 30th August 2019. The program was jointly organised by Milagres College Kallianpur and Alumni Association.
The program began with prayer song by Milagres College Students. Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese; V. Rev. Fr Lawrence C. D’Souza, Correspondent of the College; Mr Mahesh Shetty, chairman of Nemus Pharmaceutical Ltd Belur and hotelier; Mrs Sophia Dias, alumni secretary and Professor of the college; Mr Vincent Alva, Principal of the college; Mr Philip Furtado; Mr Salvador Noronha, alumni president were present on the dias.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo addressed the gathering and said, “The main purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students to pursue education and stop them from dropping out due to financial constraints. Let this generous act continue. The alumni should always help their alma mater. Behind this generosity, there is effort and sacrifice. The love and sacrifice shown by the faculty of the college helps shape the future of students.”
“We should all be indebted to the society. We have benefited from the services of other people. Other people are sacrificing for us. If we donate to schools, it will make a major difference in the society. We can experience satisfaction while doing charity,”
Mr Mahesh Shetty was felicitated by the institution. Dr Vincent Alva, principal, delivered keynote address and extended welcome. V. Rev. Dr Lawrence C D'Souza, Mr Mahesh Shetty spoke on the occasion.
An amount of Rs 6,41,044 was distributed as scholarship by Milagres Alumni (NRI). Around 151 students benefited from the scholarship.
Mr Salvador Noronha proposed vote of thanks.
