The Feast of Our Lady of Vailankanni was celebrated with devotion and fervor at Stella Maris Church, Kalmady on Tuesday, 15 August, 2017. The Solemn festive mass after nine days of novena services was held with main celebrant Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi along with V. Rev Fr Valerian Mendonca, Chancellor; Rev. Fr Alban D’Souza, Parish Priest of Stella Maris Church and 11 priests from the deanery and outside.
In his homily the Bishop said, "The diocese of Udupi is observing the year of ‘Lectio Divina’ means the 'Year of the Holy Bible'. Bible is the Word of God given to us. Word of God will never go waste. Mother Mary was a common housewife. She used to do all work which other women of her time did. She was a mother who feared God. She was the first woman on earth to receive Word of God in her life.
"By her Assumption, Mother Mary attained freedom from all shackles. Real freedom means leaving the bad behind and opting for good in life,"
After the mass the Rev. Fr Alban D’Souza thanked all the devotees who supported on the occasion.
