In a compelling effort to deepen the spirit of communion, participation, and mission among the clergy, the Diocese of Udupi organized a high-impact study session on the Final Document on Synodality on Friday, April 11, 2025. Held at the serene Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Ambagilu, the session brought together around 70 priests and deacons from across the diocese.

The day-long seminar was animated by the dynamic and deeply insightful Rev. Dr. Praveen Joy Saldanha, a noted theologian and esteemed professor at St. Joseph Seminary, Mangalore. Known for his clarity and ability to simplify complex Church documents, Dr. Saldanha unpacked the essence of synodality—a concept that lies at the heart of Pope Francis' vision for a more inclusive and listening Church.

Drawing from the rich theological foundations of the Second Vatican Council and the recent synodal process spearheaded in Rome, the facilitator skillfully guided the clergy through key themes such as discernment in the Spirit, walking together as the People of God, and shared responsibility in Church life.

Participants found the session not only informative but also deeply enriching. Many expressed that the seminar had reignited in them a pastoral zeal to make their parishes more synodal—spaces where every voice is heard, and every faithful is a co-pilgrim on the journey of faith.

The tranquil atmosphere of Anugraha Pastoral Centre proved to be the perfect backdrop for reflection and meaningful dialogue. The session concluded with a spirited open forum, where priests shared pastoral experiences and sought clarifications on practical implementation of synodal values in parish life.

This seminar is part of a larger diocesan initiative led by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, to align the local Church more closely with the global synodal movement. It marked yet another milestone in Udupi Diocese's commitment to ongoing formation, pastoral renewal, and ecclesial communion.
