In a solemn and grace-filled ceremony, Deacon Royal Fernandes SDB of St. John Bosco Church, Kelmbet, was ordained to the priesthood by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo on December 18, 2024.
The ordination, a significant milestone in the life of the Church, was celebrated in the presence of V. Rev. Fr. Cleve Telles SDB, Provincial Superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco, and the close family and friends of the newly ordained priest. The event also drew hundreds of faithful devotees, with over 20 priests participating in the sacred ceremony.
In his inspiring homily, Bishop Gerald Lobo reflected on the noble calling and responsibilities of a priest. He emphasized that a priest is chosen by God from among the people to serve them and lead them closer to Christ. The bishop also touched upon the profound significance and contemporary challenges of priestly ministry, urging all to pray for the perseverance and success of the new priest in his vocation.
Following the ordination, the newly ordained Fr. Royal Fernandes concelebrated the Holy Eucharist with the bishop, marking his first Eucharistic celebration as a priest.
The ceremony concluded with a felicitation program in the church premises, where heartfelt tributes were offered to the new priest, acknowledging his dedication and commitment to the Church. The joyous occasion was a testament to the deep faith and vibrant spirit of the community at St. John Bosco Church, Kelmbet.
