Udupi, November 21, 2024: The Prison Ministry India (PMI) of the Udupi Diocese celebrated its decennial anniversary with a solemn Eucharistic celebration and a vibrant cultural program at the Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Ambagilu. This milestone event highlighted a decade of transformative service, fostering hope and rehabilitation for prisoners.
The celebration commenced with a Holy Eucharistic Celebration at 10:30 AM, presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, along with Rev. Fr. Reginal Pinto, Spiritual Director of Prison Ministry of India. A stage program followed, bringing together clergy, volunteers, and dignitaries to honor the remarkable journey of PMI Udupi Diocese.
The stage program began with a prayer and welcome dance performed by the children of Mount Rosary School, Santhekatte, setting a reverent tone for the event. Rev. Fr. Reginal Pinto delivered the introductory talk, reflecting on PMI’s mission to offer dignity and hope to the marginalized.
Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese; Mr. V.D. Chavan, Superintendent of Hiriyadka Jail; Mr. Rosario D’Souza, President of PMI; Mr. Walter Martis, Udupi Diocesan President of S.V.P.; Sr. Melania D’Souza, SRA, Member of PMI; and Rev. Fr. Reginal Pinto, Spiritual Director of Prison Ministry of India, were present on the dais.
The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. It included a detailed decennial report presented by Sr. Melania D’Souza, highlighting key achievements and ongoing initiatives of PMI.
The Chief Guest, Mr. V.D. Chavan, lauded the ministry’s efforts in rehabilitation and reintegration. In his address, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo, the President of the event, emphasized the importance of PMI’s mission as an expression of Christ’s compassion.
PMI volunteers were honored with mementos, acknowledging their dedication and contributions to the ministry.
Mr. Rosario D’Souza extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, and Mr. Walter Martis expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the decennial celebration. Mr. Gracian Botelho compered the program with grace and professionalism.
This milestone celebration serves as a reminder of PMI’s unwavering commitment to creating a just and humane society through spiritual and social transformation.
