Udupi, November 20, 2024: The Udupi District Unit of the All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights (AKUCFHR) was officially inaugurated on November 19 at the Anugraha Pastoral Center, Kukkunje, marking a historic step in promoting Christian unity, social harmony, and collective advocacy for human rights.

The event witnessed the participation of 45 representatives from various Christian denominations, who came together to pledge solidarity in advancing the Forum’s mission.

Rt. Rev. Hemachandra, Bishop of the CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese, delivered a stirring message rooted in the Christian ethos of love and unity. He encouraged Christians to transcend denominational differences and live as role models for peace and coexistence. Quoting Christ’s teachings, he reminded attendees: “We, the Christians, are invited to be the light and salt of the earth by our Master, Jesus Christ.”

In his presidential address, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo emphasized the transformative power of unity, unveiling the "ABCD" framework of the United Christian Forum. He underscored its importance in building solidarity and achieving collective goals, asserting: “Unity is strength. United, we can fight for our community’s rights and achieve success. Division leads to defeat.” He lauded the newly formed Udupi unit for its commitment to AKUCFHR’s mission, urging collective efforts to foster peace amid societal challenges.

The program also honored Bishop Lobo on his 75th birthday, celebrating his enduring contributions to the Christian community. Fr. Baptist Pais, National Executive Secretary of the Ecumenism Commission, and Fr. Denis D’Sa, a newly appointed National Member of the Commission, were felicitated for their leadership in promoting Christian unity.

Rev. Dr. J.B. Saldanha, Public Relations Officer of the Mangalore Diocese, conducted an enlightening orientation session on the Forum’s Common Minimum Program. He highlighted AKUCFHR’s objectives, including fostering mutual respect and engaging in collaborative social action. Through an interactive discussion, participants explored strategies to overcome challenges and strengthen Christian unity.

The establishment of the Udupi unit of AKUCFHR marks a pivotal milestone in fostering harmony and advancing peace among Christian communities. This united front promises to be a beacon of hope, addressing pressing human rights issues while embodying the core values of Christianity.

As the Forum begins its mission, it sets a powerful example of how unity, faith, and action can lead to transformative change in society.
