Udupi, November 20, 2024: The Diocese of Udupi embarked on a transformative journey with a two-day consultation on its ambitious pastoral plan, “Mission 2030,” held on November 14 and 15, 2024, at the Anugraha Pastoral Centre. This visionary event brought together 68 priests, religious leaders, and lay representatives to chart a dynamic path forward for the next decade, rooted in inclusivity and participatory structures.
The event began with a reflective prayer by Fr. Wilson D’Souza, Director of the Diocesan Liturgical Centre, emphasizing the spirit of teamwork through the Gospel of Luke. Welcoming the participants, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo called for critical reflection and unity, stating, “This is not my plan but Jesus’ plan, and we must journey together to realize it.” The Bishop also underscored the alignment of “Mission 2030” with the recently released Synod Document on Participatory Structures.
Rev. Dr. Joe Xavier SJ, an expert facilitator, provided insights into the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India’s (CCBI) pastoral framework. He emphasized the need for contextual adaptation to address the socio-economic, political, and religious realities of the Udupi Diocese. Through a meticulous review of drafts from 20 pastoral commissions and structured group discussions, Dr. Xavier guided participants in refining the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives of “Mission 2030.”
Divided into five focused groups, participants engaged in robust deliberations, offering constructive feedback to ensure the plan’s relevance and practicality. Their collective input reshaped the pastoral strategy, demonstrating a shared commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive, and faith-filled diocesan community.
The consultation concluded on a high note, with Dr. Xavier commending the participants for their dedication and optimism. He expressed confidence in their ability to bring “Mission 2030” to life, marking a significant step in the diocese’s journey toward a shared vision and impactful mission.
“Mission 2030” is more than a roadmap; it is a bold declaration of the Diocese of Udupi’s commitment to fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and spiritual growth. As the diocese sets its sights on the future, this consultation stands as a testament to the power of shared faith and collective action.
