Brahmavar, October 26-28, 2024 - The faith community of Holy Family Church in Brahmavar was blessed with a spiritually enriching pastoral visit by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese. Over three days, the visit saw prayerful reflection, significant pastoral moments, and communal joy as Bishop Lobo connected with parishioners and led them in faith-filled activities.
The visit commenced with the inauguration and blessing of the newly built church entrance archway and the renovated cross. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. John Fernandes, Asst. Priest Rev. Fr. Mark Saldanha, and Nirmala English Medium School Principal Rev. Fr. Lenson, alongside parishioners, extended a warm welcome, reflecting their respect for Bishop Lobo’s leadership.
The visit began with a solemn prayer service that set a tone of reflection and reverence. Bishop Lobo then visited the cemetery, where the faithful joined him in offering prayers for their departed loved ones, a moving reminder of the Church’s connection to the communion of saints.
Bishop Lobo's catechism session for 48 youth preparing for Confirmation was a memorable highlight. His emphasis on understanding the spiritual importance of this sacrament resonated deeply with young parishioners, inspiring them to embrace their faith journey with sincerity.
His guidance continued in a session with the Parish Finance Committee, where he offered insights into stewarding parish resources, blending spiritual leadership with practical management for the community’s growth. Bishop Lobo also visited the Sacred Heart Convent for prayer and interaction with the sisters, affirming his support for religious communities.
On October 27th, the Bishop presided over a solemn Eucharistic celebration, where he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to the catechized youth. His homily urged parishioners to strengthen their spiritual lives through prayer and deepen their relationship with God.
Bishop Lobo’s post-Mass meetings with various parish groups, including the Altar Boys, Girls' Sodality, Missionary Children, ICYM, and YCS, brought inspiration and encouragement to the youth. His afternoon engagements with the Secular Franciscan Order, Sthree Sanghatan, Catholic Sabha, and Pastoral Commission animators fostered unity and strengthened bonds within the parish.
An especially moving moment was Bishop Lobo’s attendance at a Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) meeting, where he engaged with parishioners at a grassroots level, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing small faith communities. He also visited the St. Paul Chapel in Nilavara and celebrated the Eucharist at the Immaculate Karunalaya Convent in Brahmavar, where he shared spiritually uplifting conversations with the sisters.
In a compassionate gesture, Bishop Lobo visited the sick, offering them blessings, prayers, and words of comfort, bringing hope to those in need. His interactions at Nirmala English and Kannada Medium Schools further highlighted his dedication to youth faith formation and community engagement.
