In a remarkable gathering of Catholic legal professionals, the Catholic Sabha of Udupi Pradesh (R), in collaboration with the Laity Commission and Justice and Peace Commission of Udupi Diocese, organized a "Udupi Diocesan Catholic Lawyers' Meet" at Anugraha, Ambagilu, on 28th September 2024. The event aimed to foster unity among Catholic lawyers and explore how their legal expertise can be harnessed for the betterment of the community.

The occasion was graced by Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, who led the proceedings alongside other distinguished guests. Joining him on the dais were V. Rev. Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Vicar General of Udupi Diocese; Mr Santhosh Cornelio, President of the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh (R); Mr Gerald Pinto, Director of the Laity Commission; Mr Edward Larson D’Souza, Director of the Justice and Peace Commission; and renowned Mangaluru-based advocate Mr M. P. Noronha.

The program commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the illumination of wisdom and justice. Most Rev. Dr Gerald Lobo delivered his keynote address, emphasizing the role of Catholic lawyers in shaping a just and equitable society. His message resonated with the attendees, urging them to remain steadfast in their moral and ethical responsibilities as legal professionals. 

Following the Bishop’s address, Mr M. P. Noronha offered an insightful talk on how Catholic lawyers can strengthen the community through their legal practice. He highlighted the importance of unity, integrity, and service in the legal profession, encouraging attendees to use their talents for the upliftment of society.

A lively and thoughtful discussion followed, where participants exchanged ideas on how to further strengthen the Catholic legal network in Udupi. Mr. Santhosh Cornelio also shared his message, reiterating the importance of collective effort and commitment towards the common good.

The gathering was formally welcomed by Mr Gerald Pinto, while Mr Edward Larson D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries and participants who made the event a success.

The Udupi Diocesan Catholic Lawyers' Meet was a significant step towards building a stronger, more cohesive community of Catholic legal professionals dedicated to justice, peace, and social welfare.
