Mangalore Cricket Club Qatar (MCCQ) held its 7th annual scholarship distribution ceremony for deserving students from Udupi and Mangaluru at the Bishop's House, Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, on 25th August 2024. More than 25 students received scholarships at the event.

Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Udupi Diocese; Rev. Fr Praveen Leo Lasrado, Secretary of the Catholic Board of Education, Mangalore Diocese; Rev. Fr Vincent Robert Crasta, Secretary, CESU, Udupi Diocese; Mr Prakash Noronha, Mr Fredrick D’Souza and Mr Norbert Codra were presented on the dias.

Mr Prakash Noronha provided information about MCC Qatar and the MCCQ Charitable Trust, noting that since 2018, the trust has distributed scholarships worth Rs 13.5 lakh, benefiting 20-25 students annually. He also highlighted that the trust supports medical expenses and awards scholarships to students from all religious backgrounds.

Rev. Fr Praveen Leo Lasrado, Secretary of the Catholic Board of Education, Mangalore Diocese, emphasized that the scholarships come from those who have faced similar struggles. “Students should not only thank the donors but also help others when they grow up,” he said. He commended the work of the MCCQ Charitable Trust.

Addressing the gathering, Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Udupi Diocese, praised the MCCQ Charitable Trust for its annual initiative. “MCCQ Charitable Trust distributes scholarships to deserving students every year, especially for their education, which is a great service.” He encouraged students to dream big and highlighted that success is achieved through hard work. “As the students enter this competitive world, they should know what course to choose and how to secure a good job,” he added.

Scholarships were distributed by Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Rev. Fr Praveen Leo Lasrado, and Rev. Fr Vincent Robert Crasta.

Rev. Fr Vincent Robert Crasta led the opening prayer, Mr Fredrick D’Souza proposed a vote of thanks, and Mrs Lavina D’Souza compered the event.

The programme ended with a fellowship meal.
