Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia His Grace Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent visited the Diocese of Udupi on June 3, 2024.
Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent arrived at 9:30 AM at the Bishop's House in Udupi. Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Udupi Diocese, welcomed him at the Mother of Sorrows Church, along with Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Vicar General of the Udupi Diocese; V. Rev. Dr Roshan D’Souza, Chancellor and Judicial Vicar of the Udupi Diocese; and Rev. Fr Leo Praveen D’Souza, Assistant Parish Priest of the Mother of Sorrows Church. After the formal welcome, Archbishop Eugene Martin entered the Mother of Sorrows Church for prayer.
After visiting the Bishop's House, he visited Milagres Cathedral in Kallianpur. V. Rev. Fr Valerian Mendonca, Rector of Milagres Cathedral welcomed him. Rev. Fr Pradeep Cardoza, Assistant Priest of Milagres Church; the Sister Superior and community members of Rose Convent Kallianpur; staff members, and a few parishioners were present. Archbishop Eugene Martin thanked for the warm welcome accorded to him and bestowed blessings.
Following the Cathedral visit, Archbishop Eugene Martin proceeded to ‘Anugraha,’ the Udupi Diocesan Pastoral Center. Rev. Fr Cyril Lobo and Rev. Fr Wilson D’Souza, Director of Divya Jyothi welcomed him. The staff of the Pastoral Centre were present. He toured the new Pastoral Centre and viewed the documentary commemorating the Diocese’s 10th Anniversary at Amulya Audiovisual Hall. The documentary provided Archbishop Eugene Martin with an overview of the Diocese and the efforts of its pastoral commissions towards the betterment of the Udupi Diocesan community. After viewing the documentary, Archbishop Eugene Martin expressed his appreciation and congratulated Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, the Clergy and the faithful for the milestones achieved in a short period of time.
Later, Archbishop Eugene Martin visited the Our Lady of Vailankanni Shrine in Kalmady. V. Rev. Fr Baptist Menezes, Rector of the Our Lady of Vailankanni Shrine, welcomed him. He toured the shrine, prayed, and bestowed blessings. His Grace Archbishop Eugene Martin had the fraternal meal at Mother of Sorrows Church presbytery and then traveled back to Mangalore.
