‘Uzvaad’ the Udupi Diocesan fortnightly in Konkani completed ten years of its existence. To mark this auspicious event, a cultural evening was organized on January 28, 2004 at Milagres College Grounds in Kallianpur.
At the outset a chorus based on the first words spoken by God in the Bible, “Let there be light” was sung in four parts by the Choir of Mount Rosary Santhekatte. The hymn was composed by Fr Alwyn Sequeira for this occasion. The students of Milagres Primary School performed a splendid welcome dance which was choreographed by Sr Anitha UFS, the headmistress. Thereafter all the dignitaries were called to the dais. Rev. Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Chairperson of Deepa Trust which manages Uzvaad extended a cordial welcome to everyone. Fr Denis D'Sa, one of the Trustees gave a bird’s eye view, highlighting the magazine's ten years’ journey.
The three special guests representing the writers, advertisers and the staff of Uzvaad, Dr Gerald Pinto Niddodi, Mr James Mendonca Dubai and Rev. Fr Chetan Lobo OFM Capuchin were all honored for their unique contribution towards the progress of Uzvaad. Mr Archibald Furtado, Dr Vincent Alva and Sr Anitha UFS introduced them highlighting their unique contributions. They then distributed the prizes to the winners of different competitions held on the occasion of the decennial year celebrations of Uzvaad.
Three books were released during the event, two penned by Fr Alwyn Sequeira and one by Mr Richard Alvares. Snacks were served by the ICYM members of Milagres Cathedral during the break. Rev. Fr Dr Alwyn Serrao was honored by Bishop Gerald for his unique contribution to theatre activities. Mr Simson Tellis bagged the unique ‘Uzvaad Dashamanotsav Vyakthi’ Prize scoring the highest scores in a quiz competition that spread in ten issues of Uzvaad. He was also honored during the occasion.
Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo the President of the day spoke on the occasion thanking all the three editors and requesting all the readers to support this magazine. V. Rev. Fr Valerian Mendonca the Rector of Milagres Cathedral introduced Fr Alwyn Sequeira the present editor of Uzvaad and later he too was felicitated. The Drama “Dadlya modhem tum sadenv” written by Fr Dr Alwyn Serrao and enacted by Asthitva troupe, under the able direction of Christie was staged at the end of the program.
