The Post graduate department of Social Work (MSW) in collaboration with the department of women studies of Milagres College Kallianpur organized a national level seminar on “Prevention and elimination of violence against women from social work prospective” on Tuesday October 1 at the Silver Jubilee Hall of the College.
Dr Neri Cornelio Principal of Milagres College welcomed the gathering. Bishop of Udupi Dioceses Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo who inaugurated the seminar, in his message said that extremely cruel incidents of violence on women/girls have been and are being portrayed by the electronic and print media every day. The cities of Udupi and Manipal have made headlines in the national news quite recently for gruesome incidents of atrocities such as rape of college and school going students. The Delhi Nribahya case has hurt the conscience of the people. Recently the Delhi court announced the death sentence to all the adult offenders giving rise to much debate on the subject of ethics and efficiency of death sentence in the contemporary society, at a time when many nations have banned it.
